While many federal employees are focused on the pending furlough as of today, they need to also keep their eyes on life after furlough- and it is possibly even uglier than the furlough.
As of this writing, there are a number of proposals directly and adversely affecting federal employee pay and benefits. All these proposals are sponsored by the GOP. These include:
- Continued pay freeze with no “sunset”
- Increase retirement contributions for all current and future federal employees (no “grandfather”)
- Increased FEHB premiums
- Elimination or reduction of a number of premium pay formats
